Two dog owners have been fined after failing to clean up after their pets at two of Carmarthenshireās tourist hotspots.
The first incident happened in Llyn Llech Owain Country Park in Gorslas when officers saw a dog roaming off the lead.
The owner was issued with a fixed penalty notice for Ā£75 and advised to have control of his dog at all times.
A further fixed penalty notice was issued to a man along the Millennium Coastal Path at North Dock in Llanelli.Ā Again the dog was off the lead, and its owner had walked ahead.
He told the officers that he had not seen his dog foul; however it was explained to him that that was not a defence under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
Director of Environment Christina Harrhy said: āBoth Llyn Llech Owain and the Millennium Coastal Path are popular with families and children and dog mess left anywhere can be a serious health risk.
āMost dog owners are responsible and pick up after their pets; but there is a small minority that do not care and we will not hesitate to fine them. Dog fouling is a top priority for the council.ā
