EXPERT RNLI lifeguards are returning to three Gower beaches this bank holiday weekend to offer vital safety advice and assistance to members of the public.

From 10am to 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (May 2 to May 4), the charity’s lifeguards will be ready at their posts in Langland, Caswell and Port Eynon.

Stuart Thompson, South Wales Lifeguard Manager, said: “The RNLI lifeguards have now all completed their pre-season training and will be returning to their posts from 10am on Saturday May 2 for the bank holiday weekend.  If the sun continues to shine we’re expecting to welcome big crowds to the beach over the three-day weekend.  When visiting the beach with family or friends, please make sure you choose a lifeguarded beach and when entering the water always swim between the red and yellow flags. It’s also a good idea to decide in advance on a meeting spot to use should one of you be separated from the group at any point throughout the day.

“If you spot anyone in trouble out on the coast please don’t try and attempt the rescue yourself. Our lifeboat crews and lifeguards are all skilled professionals who are trained to respond to any rescue situation across the coast or out at sea. If you spot anyone in trouble either tell one of the lifeguards or call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “We’ve now benefitted from the expertise of the Royal National Lifeguard Institution every summer for a number of years. News that their specialist lifeguards are returning from this weekend for 2015’s peak tourist season will be welcomed by the many thousands of visitors heading to Caswell, Langland and Port Eynon in coming months.

“These beaches are among the most stunning in the UK, but it’s vital we do all we can to safeguard people’s wellbeing while they’re enjoying our coastline. Our on-going partnership with the Royal National Lifeguard Institution will help lead to a visitor experience that’s both fun and safe.”
