Improvement work is underway along Swansea promenade to strengthen the sea wall.
Swansea Council is installing rock armour along a section of the coastline near West Cross.
The protective measure involves the installation of large boulders of various sizes which are placed in a manner that they protect the promenade from any tidal damage. The materials to be used on the scheme will be sourced locally.
High tides in 2014 led to the erosion of around 60 metres of the coastline in the location.
Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation, said: “The promenade between Mumbles and the city centre is a very popular walking and cycling route for residents and visitors.
“The high tides at the end of last year led to damage along parts of our coastline which we have had to deal with.
“Installing the specialist rock armour will ensure that when tides are high in that part of the bay, it will not lead to the sort of damage and disruption we saw previously.”
The work follows on from the removal of a number of large trees at the location which had become unstable during the storms.
Cllr Thomas added: “We were left with no option other than to remove a small number of trees which were at risk of collapsing. Our main priority is to ensure the many walkers runners and cyclists who use this route can do it safely.”
