Calling all members! A host of activities are planned at the National Botanic Garden of Wales for you this Members’ Day.
Some of the highlights of the event, which takes place on Friday May 15, include the grand unveiling of a new bronze bust in the Wallace Garden to commemorate the life and works of Alfred Russel Wallace.
Prior to the unveiling, there will be a performance by Theatr na n’Og of “You Should Ask Wallace”, a one-man play about the great man performed by acclaimed actor Ioan Hefin.
Also among the highlights is the Director’s Address by Dr Rosie Plummer, followed by an opportunity for members, over refreshments, to ask questions and then meet and chat to Trustees.
Other events taking place on the day include our popular Annual Plant Sale, an Art Exhibition and you can find out about our ‘Sewing the Future Textile Project’ by the Sewing Botanicals.
During the day, you can learn about Bees at the Garden, find out the latest news on our Regency Restoration project, keep up to speed with Renewable Energy at the Garden and find out how we go Back to Nature.
There will be several interesting tours taking place throughout the day including the ‘Growing the Future’ tour showcasing the new ‘grow your own’ training area and an opportunity to view the new online e-courses in the GTF Classroom. Other tours include the new Barcode Sculpture trail and a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the horticulture department.
A special premiere screening of film ‘Pirates, Plague and Plants for Health’ will also take place during the day. The 30-minute documentary reveals the findings of more than four years of research to uncover the story of the estate’s earliest origins and the global impact of its founders, the Middletons of Llanarthne.
