A leading Carmarthenshire Councillor has visited the Cross Hands Hotel in Llanybydder to see how it has benefited from grant help.
Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell saw work carried out thanks to the help of a Strengthening Tourism Appeal in Rural Carmarthenshire of £75,000.
The Cross Hands Hotel is a detached grade II listed period stone built coaching style Inn facing a crossroads at the intersection of the A485 Lampeter to Carmarthen Road with the B4337 Llansawel to Llanwnen Road.
The £231,000 project involved renovating the derelict accommodation side of the business to provide seven high quality en-suite bedrooms.
The business will target visitors to the area especially for mountain biking, walkers, and fishermen on the River Teifi and Business professionals who are visiting the area.
Cllr Meryl Gravel said: “I’m pleased that the STARC grant, coupled with the significant investment the business partners have made, will increase trade at the hotel and help the local economy.
“The transformation of this run down building is like the rising of the phoenix.”
STARC received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The aim was to strengthen Carmarthenshire’s position as a year round premier tourist destination.
