COUNCILLORS in Carmarthenshire are contributing to help earthquake victims in Nepal.
Cllr Tom Defis asked members at a meeting of Full Council if they would donate to a charity collection he was organising to raise money for Christian Aid.
Cllr Defis said: “As we all know there was a huge earthquake in Nepal, and a second major earthquake has struck the same area.
“They have major problems and a number of councillors have told me they wish to contribute, so this is an opportunity to do so.
“Christian Aid works in Nepal, we have partners on the ground, I will speak on Skype with their representatives and ensure any money raised is used in the best way possible.
“There is great concern that people will die because of the problems of sourcing clean water, it’s not just because of the earthquake they are suffering, water is a major issue.”
Cllr Defis said collection bags had been placed around the Chamber for councillors to make donations.
Cllr Pam Palmer said: “I would like to thank Tom, this is a prompt to remind us of our duties.
“When we see the television coverage, it’s a very sad situation, and I am sure a lot of us would be only too happy to help.”
