SKATEBOARDERS, BMXers, rollerbladers and thrill-seekers on scooters will bring Swansea city centre to life this weekend.

Ramps, rails and quarter pipes are being set up on Castle Square this Saturday (May 16) for the Skate, Street and Sports Festival 2015.

The free festival, being organised by Swansea Council in partnership with The Wave and Swansea Sound, lasts from 10.30am to 4pm.

There’ll be demonstrations as well as the chance for people to take part.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “This event is one of many being arranged for the city centre to help boost its vibrancy and generate more trade for businesses. It won’t just be a great event for everyone who takes part – it’ll be a fantastic spectacle for onlookers, too.

“It follows on from the success of a similar event last year that was enjoyed by hundreds of people. The live music and street dancing that’s also being organised means there’ll be some terrific entertainment available for the thousands of people who’ll be visiting the city centre on the day.”

Visitors to Castle Square will also be able to try Parkour – a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training where people aim to get from A to B in the most efficient way possible.

Live entertainment will come from DJ Daz, Lockdown, Exist Skatepark, Dani Dee’s School of Dance, Solar Dance, Dancing Divas and others.

Gower Riders, Bikeability, Streetsports Swansea, Sustrans, Wheelrights, WeCycle and Swansea City Roller Derby will also be on hand.
