Vice-captain Scott Williams says Scarlets’ Guinness PRO12 clash against Benetton Treviso is one of the region’s biggest games of the season as they look to secure European qualification.
Scarlets require two points from the Italian clash on Saturday in the final round of the regular PRO12 season but will be heading to Treviso looking for the victory.
A victory will secure the region’s place in the top six of the league table and Williams said; “It’s a must win game for us.
“Every point counts. Our mentality this weekend is to win and then we’re safe. The boys are looking forward to it.
“They’ll be wanting to finish the game on a high – it’s going to be tough. We’ve said we’re just focused on what we’ve got to do. We get the win and we’re safe. We don’t want to be losing and waiting to see other results.”
A sixth placed position will also secure the region place in next season’s European Rugby Champions Cup, a fate that Williams says is hugely important for his side; “You want to be playing against the best teams. We look forward to the start of the season to see who we’re playing. Having watched the final and semi final, you want to be playing in those games, big massive games against the best players at the best level.
“It’s one of the biggest games of the season, there’s so much on the game really. I think we’re going to have a good squad next year. We’ve showed this year that we can compete with the best teams.”
