A detailed review of primary education provision in the Haverfordwest area is to be carried out by Pembrokeshire County Council.
Members agreed at Full Council today (Thursday) to review the six English-language schools in Pembrokeshire – Fenton, Haverfordwest VC, Mount Airey Infants, Mary Immaculate, Prendergast, and St Marks.
It follows an evaluation of the education provision in the town.
Ysgol Glan Cleddau will not be included as it is the subject of separate proposals in relation to Welsh medium provision.
The review will look at various aspects including standards, supply and demand of pupil places, value for money, community impact – including school catchments, and parental preferences.
The aims of the review include driving up standards of teaching and attainment, and improving education outcomes for children.
A report on the review will be presented to the County Council in due course.
It will identify a range of options for the future, which could include; no change, federation, merger / amalgamation/ multi site school, change in designation or closure.
The Council will be asked to consider these options prior to any preliminary consultation.
