Council officers will visit licensed premises in Carmarthenshire over the weekend to assess the potential impact of noise on their communities.

Officers from the environmental health and licensing section of Carmarthenshire County Council will undertake the visits as part of Noise Action Week (May 18-23, 2015).

They will be inspecting during peak hours to assess the level of noise and disturbance being emitted, and will check that landlords and managers are adhering to the various conditions of their premises licences.

The findings will be discussed with the premises manager, and practical solutions will be offered to reduce any impact their activities may be having on nearby residents.

Cllr Jim Jones, Executive Board Member for public protection, said: “Typically during the summer months we get more noise complaints from members of the public.

“We want to work with licensed premises to ensure they are aware of the effect that their entertainment, and customers, may have on residents living nearby.

“We hope these visits will have a positive impact in the run up to the peak summer season so that residents do not have cause for complaint.”

Under licensing conditions, pubs and clubs are responsible for ensuring that they address noise issues through appropriate planning, good management and proactive procedures as part of the day-to-day running of their businesses.
