A new path extension has been officially opened in Goodwick.

The 300 metre extension across Goodwick Moor completes a shared use path, which was originally built in 2010.

It provides a safer walking and cycling route – avoiding the nearby  A487 St David’s/Fishguard road – for local journeys to schools, shops, hotels and the seafront.

It will also provide a potential route for the National Cycle Network 4 to link up more effectively with the Fishguard & Goodwick railway station, ferry port and the proposed marina in the future.

“The path project is part of a strategy to encourage walking and cycling for all types of journeys whether business or pleasure,” said Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Transportation.

“Encouraging people to ditch their cars will benefit the environment and encourage healthier lifestyles,” he said.

“It will help promote sustainable tourism in this area of North Pembrokeshire, which will also help stimulate the local economy.”

This latest phase is part of a package of schemes at Goodwick and Milford Haven designed to improve access to railway stations. The whole package cost in the region of £179,000 and was funded primarily by the Welsh Government through the Local Transport Fund.
