Singing flash mobs will be helping to raise awareness of dementia in Llanelli town centre on Saturday (May 23).

The Alzheimer’s Society is inviting all to come and join them in fun and learning sessions at the junction of Vaughan and Stepney Streets between 10am-3pm.

Vocal Harmony will be performing and engaging in ‘Flash Mob’ activity and there will be demonstrations and displays throughout the day.

Dementia Friends sessions lasting for up to half an hour will be running at 11am, and 1-3pm, at Boots, Vaughan Street. Alzheimer’s Society staff will be on hand to  offer information and support throughout the day.

Executive board member for health and social care, Cllr Jane Tremlett, said there is a growing number of dementia sufferers in Carmarthenshire, with numbers expected to double to more than 10,000 in little more than a decade.

“It is so important to raise awareness because dementia is an illness that is little spoken about,” she said.

“It is important for people to know there is help and where they can go for support.”

Anyone who wants to know about the condition is invited to attend the awareness sessions running through the day.
