Nearly 100 schoolchildren turned out for Disability Sport Wales’ athletics day.
Some nine schools, including primary and secondary, took part in a number of events at Llanelli Leisure Centre including the chest press, indoor javelin and shot, target throw, slalom for wheelchair users and hurdles.
The event in its eighth year saw five groups rotating between each game with races held after lunch in the sports hall.
Each activity station was managed by sport science students from Coleg Sir Gar.
At the end of the day pupils from Ysgol Dewi Sant, Lakefield , Nantgaredig, Dyffryn Amman, Glan Y Mor, Maes Y Gwendraeth, Heol Goffa, Queen Elizabeth High and Strade schools were given evaluation forms and information about joining local clubs. Each participant was also given a commemorative medal.
Lisa Pudner, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Carmarthenshire, said “I was delighted to see a large turnout again this year. All the children seem to enjoy themselves and were eager to take part.”
The Hanuš Weisl memorial award which recognises the sporting achievements of disabled people was given to pupil Michael Wiles.
