IT’S now easier than ever for people with a disability in Swansea to enjoy cultural activities across Wales as a whole.
The Plus One scheme run by Swansea Council has been replaced by an all-Wales card called Hynt that means family members or carers are eligible for free or discounted entry when they accompany people with a disability to art and performance venues throughout the country as well as here.
Plus One cards are still eligible for Swansea attractions like the Grand Theatre, Active Swansea leisure centres, the LC and Singleton Park’s boating lake until they expire, but anyone who wants to benefit from free or reduced entry to attractions elsewhere in Wales needs a Hynt card to do so.
Swansea Council is writing to all the city’s Plus One cardholders to inform them of the change.
Cllr Mark Child, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Healthy City, said: “The Plus One scheme has been a major success since its introduction, with over 4,800 people in Swansea now benefitting. Its replacement by the Hynt card doesn’t mean Plus One cards aren’t valid in Swansea any longer – it just means that people with only Plus One cards will be missing out on free or discounted entry that they’re entitled to in other art and performance venues across Wales.
“Plus One cardholders in Swansea can apply for a Hynt card now to get the extra benefits straight away or apply when their Plus One card has expired.”
Where a higher level of support is needed, free access for more than one carer or personal assistant can also be arranged through Hynt.
Hynt is an Arts Council of Wales initiative, managed by Creu Cymru in partnership with Diverse Cymru.
