Local companies have been given a boost thanks to Pembrokeshire County Council.
In the last financial year, the Authority spent over 56 per cent of its total expenditure with Pembrokeshire-based businesses.
The 56.43 per cent figure for 2014 – 2015 is the highest in the Council’s 19-year history.
The Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Keith Lewis, said the figure was great news for the local economy.
“It shows that the Authority is keen to maximise opportunities for local firms and suppliers – both big and small – to bid for our work and to win contracts” he added.
“I know that our procurement team have worked hard to make this possible and Pembrokeshire businesses have risen to meet the challenge.”
The Council’s Head of Procurement, Paul Ashley-Jones, added: “We have always been keen to give local suppliers the chance to win our business and I am pleased they have grabbed the opportunity with both hands.”
Three years ago the Welsh Government produced audited figures which showed that in 2010 – 2011 the figure for Pembrokeshire was 45 per cent – then the highest proportion of any local authority in Wales.
At the time the Welsh Government congratulated the Council on making its procurement process open and accessible.
