The new chair of Carmarthenshire County Council is looking forward to representing the county for the next year.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths was elected as Chair at the Annual Meeting of the County Council and Cllr Eryl Morgan was elected as Vice Chair.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths is originally from Drefach, Felindre, and now lives in Waundew, Carmarthen. He was educated at Penboyr CP School, Llandysul Grammar School, Trinity College and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and has an Education Degree and Teacher’s Certificate. He was a teacher and then Lecturer in Education at Trinity College before retiring.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths is married to wife Meinir who is Chair’s Consort and has two children Llyr and Meleri.

He represents the county council on the Governing Bodies of Ysgol Bro Myrddin and Ysgol y Dderwen CP School. As well as serving on the county council he is also a member of Carmarthen Town Council and a former Mayor of Carmarthen.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths is a Deacon at Priordy Chapel, an author, poet and composer, Vice President of Carmarthen Town AFC, President of Carmarthen Town Band Honorary and is part of the Collecting History project ‘Stori Fawr Drefach Felindre’. He was Honorary President of Eisteddfod Sir Gâr 2014.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths was elected as Chair at the Annual Meeting of the County Council and Cllr Eryl Morgan was elected as Vice Chair.

Cllr Eryl Morgan lives in Llanelli and represents the Bigyn Ward. He has previously been a member of Carmarthenshire County Council, term ending 2008. He is a retired Social Worker and Probation Officer.
