Neath Port Talbot Council’s Fostering Service has received positive feedback in a report from the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSiW).
The report follows an inspection which focused on the quality of life of looked after children and young people. Inspectors based their judgement on analysing self-assessments, meeting with foster carers and service employees, and scrutinising supervision files.
The report highlighted a number of positive issues. These included having an experienced workforce, committed to developing the service and providing high quality training to foster carers.
The inspectors commented that the children were being provided with relevant information and that their voice was being sought. They also found that children and young people are experiencing a sense of achievement and are being encouraged to follow their interests. Further comments indicated a number of successful relationships between carers and the children they look after and that carers feel fully supported by the Fostering Service.
The inspection was carried out in early March 2015 and found no areas of non-compliance.
Councillor Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said:
“Improving outcomes for children in need and children who are looked after is our top corporate priority.
“This report makes for some positive reading and reflects our commitment to children and young people in foster care. It also pays testament to the hard work and dedication of both our fostering team and the foster carers who provide such an excellent service.”
