Pembrokeshire pupils showed their mettle at the recent Urdd National Eisteddfod in Caerphilly.

Local students came home with 75 medals including 22 first place wins, 21 second place and 32 third place wins.

The county came fifth in Wales.

Among the winners was Ffion Haf Williams a former pupil of Ysgol y Preseli, who won the coveted Drama Medal for her one act play.

Ffion, originally from Dinas, won high praise from the adjudicators for her stage drama, which examined the relationship between a piano teacher and his pupil.

Councillors Huw George, Cabinet Member for the Welsh Language, and Councillor Sue Perkins, Cabinet Member for Education congratulated all the winners and competitors.

“Our students entered and won prizes across a range of fields including music, instrumental, cerdd dant, composing, dancing, reciting, literature, public speaking and theatre,” they said.

“Their success is testament both to their hard work and the efforts of all those – teachers and parents – who support them through the competitions.”

To mark their success the County Council will be displaying a selection of pictures, literary achievements and arts and crafts entries in the foyer of County Hall between the dates June 8th and 19th.
