Pembrokeshire’s Boccia players took to the floor this month for a series of competitions.
Over 60 players battled it out in the county’s primary and secondary schools competitions – as well as the adult contest.
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire – the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council – the matches were played at Milford Haven Leisure Centre.
Winner of the primary school contest was Pembroke Dock Community School with Monkton as runners up.
Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard won the secondary school contest with Pembroke Autistic Centre coming second.
Meanwhile Milford Marvels won the Adult contest with Portfield Social Activity Centre runners up.
All the winners and runners up were presented with trophies by William James of Valero, which sponsored the competitions.
Angela Miles, disability sports development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire, said she was hugely impressed by the standard of play.
“Boccia is becoming increasingly popular and the quality of play is rising all the time,” she said. “As well as giving players the chance to show off their skills, the competitions are also an opportunity to spot the players of the future with many youngsters invited to attend Crymych Panthers – the county’s Boccia club.”
The games were refereed by Liz Jones, Carol Gittins, Sian Jones and William Lawrence (volunteers at Crymych Panthers) along with Charles Hopkinson and Jim Ball (Saundersfoot Rotary).
