Campaigns: The beautiful Great Barrier Reef in Australia is in immediate danger.

The Reef’s exquisite coral is home to cute clownfish, gentle dugongs and majestic humpback whales. Right now though, this precious ocean jewel is under direct attack from the coal industry.

Approval has been given to plans to build an enormous new mega-mine near the Reef – ripping up millions of tonnes of sea floor in order to ship coal out to sea.

But we can stop this. International bank Standard Chartered is advising on this destructive project – and the funding isn’t yet in place for it to go ahead.

If we can convince Standard Chartered to walk away now – we can save the Reef.

This is a project that even Goldman Sachs, and a string of other major investment banks, judged too dirty to get involved with. Standard Chartered is increasingly isolated, and we need to let them know we won’t stand for it.

As a bank, Standard Chartered cares about profit, but they also care what people like us think about them. They even spend millions of pounds sponsoring Liverpool FC, a Premiership football club, to boost their image!

We’ve shown time and time again that together we can force companies like Standard Chartered to reconsider their actions. Just this year, we forced Santander to stop funding rainforest destruction in Indonesia after tens of thousands of us joined the campaign.

We can do it again.
