More than forty walkers braved the windy weather last Saturday to support Foster Walk Neath Port Talbot at Aberavon Seafront.
The event was a colourful sight with NPT Fostering staff, players from the Aberavon Wizards Rugby team, adults, children, dogs and the seven foot tall NPT fostering mascot all taking part.
It was one of six such events across the UK, which were organised in celebration of the 2015 Foster Care Fortnight campaign. The events raised much needed funds for the Fostering Network, a registered charity that works for fostered children and young people, fostering families and the services that support them.
At the Aberavon event, members of the NPT Foster Care Association provided much welcomed drinks for the walkers. On completing the walk, participants received a medal and certificate from the Fostering Network, together with a goodie bag containing leaflets, pens and an NPT mascot bookmark.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue officers were also on hand, giving out information and advice and offering visitors the opportunity to explore a fire engine.
A bouncy castle and various attractions provided by In House Entertainment completed the event.
Cllr. Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, officially started the walk and congratulated everyone involved in making the day such a success. He said:
“I was delighted to see so many people turn out to support this event despite the cold and windy weather. The walk was an excellent opportunity to raise money for a very worthy cause and to raise the profile of fostering, foster carers and the excellent service that they provide.
“Special thanks must go to everyone who took part, the organisations who turned out to support the walk and of course our Fostering Team for their hard work in organising the event.”
The Council welcomes enquiries from anyone who is interested in becoming a foster carer. To learn more about fostering in Neath Port Talbot, visit the Council’s website www.npt.gov.uk/fostering, contact the Fostering Team via email fostering@npt.gov.uk or telephone 01639 685 866.
