BIRDS flying into an attraction on Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park are perching up for a prestigious tourism award.
The WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre has been shortlisted for the Best Tourist Attraction Award in Carmarthenshire in the Swansea Bay Awards 2015, beating off competition from over 60 other attractions in the area to scoop a top three spot.
County executive board member for regeneration tourism and leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “We are so lucky to have this outstanding visitor’s attraction in Carmarthenshire.
“The Llanelli Wetland Centre offers spectacular days out for people of all ages and interests. You can enjoy close encounters with birds or breathtaking views of diverse wetland habitats and a full programme of events and activities, including canoe safaris and bike trails in the summer holidays.
“They are great days out for the whole family.
“Other highlights include hand feeding birds from all over the world, watching the fabulous flock of Caribbean flamingos, discovering hidden treasures such as little egrets, kingfishers, dragonflies, butterflies and looking out for elusive water voles.
“I recently attended the opening of the education water laboratory that is going to be another great asset at the centre for parties of schoolchildren and visitors learning about the water cycle clouds and raindrops to oceans brilliantly delivered by centre staff.”
Centre manager Nigel Williams said; “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. There are so many great places to visit in the area so to be recognised as a key tourist attraction is great news for me and all the staff who work so hard here at the centre.
“Hopefully making the awards shortlist will raise awareness of the important conservation work we do here and will encourage more people to come along and see the great things we do.”
The annual Awards, now in its third year, is an event which recognises the amazing work of individuals and businesses throughout South West Wales.
Winners will be announced at an awards dinner on October 1 at The Brangwyn Hall, Swansea.
