Stackpole VC School Reaches New Heights

Over 30 pupils, former pupils, staff, parents and grandparents abseiled down the Great Keep at Pembroke Castle on Sunday 14th June 2015 raising funds through sponsorship for Stackpole VC School.

The abseiling event was hosted by Tenby’s Overhang Climbing Centre and the school signed up through it’s active PTA.

Stackpole VC School Base Leader Mrs Sandra Bryant, who also abseiled, said: “It was an exhilarating day and such a great experience for the children and the grown ups alike.

“Some of our pupils who abseiled were as young as six years old and it was fantastic to witness their determination and courage as they tackled the 75 foot abseil down one of the most historic landmarks in Pembrokeshire.

“It’s been a wonderful day of achievement especially as for some, overcoming their fear of heights was a challenge to say the least!

“We haven’t yet collected all our sponsorship and gift aid but early indications are that we are well on track to provide a fantastic boost to the PTA funds!

“Funding raised from events like this enable us to enhance the learning experiences of the pupils in our school. From iPads and raspberry pi’s to musical and sporting equipment and improvements to our extensive outdoor learning areas, it’s hugely rewarding to be able to provide the children with that little bit extra.

“So I’d just like to say a huge thank you to all our amazing abseilers and supporters and also to the organisers of the event for making it such a special day for Stackpole VC School.
