Economy Minister Edwina Hart has welcomed results published today that confirm 2014-15 was another record breaking year for inward investment projects being attracted into Wales.

Figures published by UKTI reveal Wales’ recorded more than 100 inward investment projects for the first time since records began – breaking the previous record of 79, achieved in 2013-14.

First Minister Carwyn Jones revealed on Monday that Wales was set for another record result, based on the Welsh Government’s own data. These latest UKTI figures show Wales attracted 101 foreign direct inward investment projects in during 2014-15, an increase of 27% on the previous year, creating 5,085 new jobs and safeguarding a further 4,520 jobs.

Edwina Hart said:

“To improve on the previous year’s record breaking inward investment levels is a remarkable achievement, especially with almost double the number of new jobs created in Wales. These figures are extremely positive and clearly show the Welsh Government’s inward investment strategy is working and delivering results.

“We are a pro-business government which works closely with companies to create growth and jobs across Wales. We are also working to create growth and jobs in every part of Wales. Last year we also created, safeguarded or assisted over 38,000 – our best performance for 10 years.”

Headline figures reveal the number of new investment jobs in Wales increased by 79% during 2014-15, rising from 2,844 in 2013-14 to 5,085.

Wales has welcomed new investment by companies such as Aldi, Alert Logic, Appnovation, Bristow Helicopters, Calbee, Glen Dimplex, LeadIn, Sorenson Media, SunZu and Tissue Therapies Ltd.
