Over 100 adult learners from across the county attended a special event earlier this month.
Reaching Higher, Going Further showcased the opportunities available for them to progress in education, training, volunteering and self-employment.
Organised by the Pembrokeshire Learning Network, it featured presentations from a range of education bodies working in the county.
They included Learning Pembrokeshire, (Pembrokeshire County Council’s adult learning service) Pembrokeshire College, Trinity St David’s University, the Open University, the Springboard Project and Launch.
Representatives from PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services), PBI. Pembrokeshire Lottery and Communities First were also there – along with two local female entrepreneurs who shared their success stories in making it in the business world.
Councillor Sue Perkins, Cabinet Member for Education, who opened the event, said that she was impressed by the excellent turnout and encouraged everyone to seize the opportunities on offer.
“These opportunities will help everyone make full use of their skills and abilities and realise their potential,” she said.
Of those who completed their feedback forms after the event, 96 per cent said they were interested in pursuing some of the options promoted on the day.
Following the one -off event, free Open Days taster sessions will be run at Pembrokeshire College on June 26th and Learning Pembrokeshire’s Albion Centre on July 10th to give learners further information.
Should any member of the public wish to attend either of these Open Days, please contact Laura Phillips on 075009 18050 to reserve your place.
The Reaching Higher, Going Further event was funded by the Big Lottery Fund and held on Monday June 15th at the Pater Hall in Pembroke Dock.
