RIGHTS OF WAY IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Ceredigion County Council has been awarded funding by the Welsh Government under the Rights of Way Improvement Plan for 2015.

This funding enables the Authority to employ an additional member of staff to undertake improvement works on the Rights of Way network in Ceredigion.

As part of the programme for 2015, work has been carried out over the last two months on a network of bridleways in the Aeron Valley, and on bridleways linking Lledrod to the Ystwyth Trail.

Most of the work on the Aeron Valley network around Talsarn and Bwlch Llan has been carried out with the assistance of a volunteer group from the Lampeter Ramblers Association. These bridleways were already accessible but they have now been upgraded to an improved standard, with better way-marking. The landowners on whose land these routes transverse must be thanked for their full co-operation and assistance with these improvement works.

The improvements previously carried out under the “Paths for People” and the “Ceredigion on Horseback” projects, as well as ROWIP funding in 2014 has benefited the communities along the Aeron Valley, providing a much improved network of Rights of Way for horse riders, cyclists and ramblers. The beautiful Aeron Valley can now be appreciated from several different vantage points along its length.

Users of Rights of Way must remember to follow the Countryside Code which reminds people to:

  • Be safe – plan ahead and follow any signs
  • Leave gates and property as you find them
  • Protect plants and animals and take your litter home
  • Keep dogs under close control
  • Consider other people

Councillor Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet member with responsibility for Economic and Community Development Services, said: “We as a Council are very proud that we have received this annual contribution from the Government, which is essential for the important work of improving Rights of Way in Ceredigion.

These improvements means individuals and groups, be it tourists or locals, are able to enjoy the beauty of the country, and jobs are also being created. The contribution of volunteers and the cooperation of land owners has also been valuable, and enabled the Council to gain the best value out of this work.”
