VISITORS to Swansea from across the world are giving the city the thumbs-up.

TripAdvisor, the world’s biggest travel website, has awarded both Swansea Market and the Brangwyn Hall with Certificates of Excellence.

The awards celebrate excellence in hospitality and are only given to places that consistently get great reviews on TripAdvisor.

Swansea Council runs Swansea Market and the Brangwyn Hall.

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor takes into account the quality and quantity of reviews and opinions submitted by the public to TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four stars out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least a year.

The Thai Taste stall in Swansea Market is also ranked number one on TripAdvisor of 485 restaurants to have been reviewed across the city.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Everyone involved in Swansea Market and the Brangwyn Hall deserves great praise because this recognition has come about thanks to terrific feedback from the public.

“We recognise the importance of these two attractions to Swansea and we’re determined to keep them at the heart of Swansea life for many more years to come. Work to refurbish Swansea Market’s roof is on-going and the Brangwyn Hall was recently restored to its original glory. We’re delighted to share the Brangwyn’s award with our catering partner, JR Events.  We see the Brangwyn accolade very much as a joint award between the Council and JR Events for providing a great venue, great food and excellent service from both teams.

“Many more events are planned for the Brangwyn Hall in coming months and, subject to funding, more improvement works could take place at Swansea Market in future to further boost its feel and appearance.”

Forthcoming events at the Brangwyn Hall include the Welsh National Wedding Fayre on July 5, the Swansea Beer and Cider Festival from August 27 to August 29, and Bullet for My Valentine on October 20.

Rhossili Bay on Gower was also named one of Europe’s top 12 beaches in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for Beaches earlier this year.
