July 6th will be a red letter day for a group of Monkton graduates.

For 17 people will be graduating with a BA degree in Education & Social Inclusion on that day – with another 18 awarded Foundation degrees.

The students are all graduates of an unique graduate scheme on offer at Monkton School in Pembroke.

The brainchild of headteacher Shelley Morris, it offers an opportunity for local people to study for a degree in their own community.

The Foundation Degree in “Inclusive Studies for Teaching Assistants” is delivered by The University of Wales, Trinity Saint David assisted by award winning lecturer, Jean Williams.

Shelley Morris praised the hard work and effort of the graduates.

“Those graduating have all worked so hard to gain these qualifications, many working full time, with young families,” she said.

“Most of them would have been unable to achieve this if they had to travel to the university or stop working.

“Our partnership with Trinity Saint David has provided a unique opportunity for members of our community to study in the community.”

If you are interested in studying for a Foundation degree- and it’s not just for teaching assistants – phone Kellie on 01646 685685, email: launch@pembrokeshire.gov.uk or inbox the Facebook page “Launch Learning”.

Alternatively come along to Monkton School on Thursday 25th June between 4pm – 5pm for new enrolments for the September 2015 intake.
