PASSENGER TRANSPORT TEAM WIN TOP INDUSTRY AWARD

The council’s passenger transport team has been recognised in the CILT (Chartered Institute of Logisitcs and Transport) Cymru Awards.

Held at the prestigious Assembly Room in City Hall, Cardiff, the team received an award for best partnership for their work with First Cymru in developing a new bus service and Bwcabus.

The project was up against stiff competition from a number of national and regional companies.

The T1 Traws Cymru service between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen works hand in hand with Bwcabus and the award highlights ‘the successful vital links the service provides’.

Bwcabus was established six years ago as a pilot scheme between Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion county councils to provide vital public transport links in rural communities for passengers to access employment, training, health and other essential services.

It was funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Welsh Government, with a total investment of £2.6 million over six years.

Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Hazel Evans congratulated the team for all their hard work which had led to a dramatic increase in customer satisfaction and a better quality service with improved reliability.

She added: “The partnership between Bwcabus and the T1 service has only been made possible by a number of partners coming together and sharing in the vision to create an innovative new approach to serve local and long distance public transport services, connecting people with key urban centres where onward travel can be made by bus or rail.

“The partnership relies on true co-operation and close collaboration and is a model of success for bringing together local and national government, academia, public bodies, community groups and the private sector, to deliver an integrated public transport system.”
