Children from Prendergast CP School gave a presentation last week in Cardiff Bay showcasing the school’s best practice in supporting military families.

They made the presentation at the launch of the official Supporting Service Children in Education (SSCE) Cymru Guidance for schools and parents.

Many of the children of soldiers based at 14 Signal Regiment in Brawdy are pupils at Prendergast School.

Their presentation focused on the induction and transition process for services children and families, now firmly established at the school.

Head teacher Mrs Debbie Davies said:  It was a great honour for our school to be represented at such a prestigious event and to be highlighted as a school offering best practice with service families in Wales.

“We are only too well aware of the challenges that face our military children and have worked hard to set up processes at school enabling easier transition for all.”

The guidance aims to highlight the simple things that can pose big challenges for these children such as missing a parent who is away in a dangerous part of the world, settling into yet another new school, or missing parts of their learning because of different programmes of study in different countries.

The speakers at the event were Huw Lewis AM and Leighton Andrews AM.
