Record numbers of children and young people from Swansea have been nominated for honours in awards which seek to recognise the unsung stars of our communities.

More than 300 under 25s have been put forward for the High 5 Awards for inspirational young people, either as individuals or part of a group, for making a difference in their own lives or to their families, schools or communities.

Nominations flooded in from friends, family, schools, Council staff and voluntary organisations in a bid to celebrate their hard work and achievements.

Swans midfield ace and awards ambassador Leon Britton said: “Each year more and more youngsters are nominated for these awards and I have been told the quality of entries is even higher this year again.

“It just goes to show what wonderful young people there are in Swansea. Thank you to all the nominators for putting them forward.

“Everyone nominated deserves recognition for doing something worthy and that’s why High 5 will be awarding all nominees with a special certificate to show that their efforts are valued and reward them for their inspirational work.

“It’s going to be a hard task judging those who deserve extra special recognition and will go on to win the individual categories.”

More than 120 individuals and 20 groups of between five and 30 young people have been nominated for the 2015 awards – that’s more nominations and more young people’s stories than ever before..

Nominations for the awards have now closed.  Judging will take place over the summer and overall winners will be announced at a special ceremony in the autumn.

The High 5 awards are organised by Swansea Council with sponsorship from Gower College and supported by Swansea City Football Club, arvato, Stenor Environmental Services, Bay Leisure Services, The Wave, Swansea Building Society, Chiquito’s and the Rotary Club of Swansea.
