Ty Dyffryn, the new £10-million build in a stunning Ammanford location will provide much sought after apartments for people over 55.
It will be opened in early 2016.
Those who want to find out more about this innovative housing scheme for over 55s being built at Gwynfryn have an opportunity to attend an information day on Friday, July 17 at the Pensioner’s Hall, Quay Street, Ammanford, between 2pm-5pm.
Demand for places at this development is expected to be high. There are waiting lists of up to two years for places at the two existing extra care facilities in the county Plas y Mor in Burry Port and Cwm Aur in Llanybydder.
Family Housing Association has been working in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council to open the two new extra care schemes in Johnstown, Carmarthen and Gwynfryn, Ammanford to address the shortage of accommodation in Carmarthenshire.
They are providing 111 extra care apartments costing more than £23million across the two schemes in Carmarthenshire by January 2016.
Ty Dyffryn, Ammanford is opposite Coleg Sir Gar on Station Road. There will be 37 one-bedroom flats plus 13 flats with two bedrooms. The latter are designed to be suitable for couples who want to stay together even though one might have significant health issues.
Tenants will have individual apartments with privacy and security. A range of social activities will be encouraged with a focus on promoting independence.
Staff will be on hand to offer advice on eligibility and the broad range of facilities provided.
The scheme will have facilities open to the wider community including a restaurant, craft and therapy rooms and a hair salon. It is designed to be part of the community and will encourage use by local residents.
Older Person’s Service Manager at Family Housing Association Barry Miles said: “We are working in partnership with the council to design and develop this exciting new scheme which will provide modern homes and services for the county’s older residents.”
Staff will be available at the information day to explain about the development and the care and support services that will be provided. There will also be representatives offering advice and information from the council’s housing department, benefits and domiciliary care team, as well as support services, Age Cymru, the interior designer and specialised Communication Systems.
The facilities have lifts that are fully accessible for wheelchair users and has the necessary charging points for mobility scooters.
