One hundred and fifty pupils took to the field last month for the final of the Pembrokeshire Schools Mixed Kwik Cricket competition.

Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire – the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council- the final attracted players from 14 local primary schools.

Hook School were the eventual winners beating Cleddau Reach in a tense final contest.

Both schools will now go on to represent the County in the South Wales Finals at Radyr Cricket Club in Cardiff later this week.

The Pembrokeshire Final was played at Haverfordwest Cricket Club on Monday 29th June.

As well as teams from Hook and Cleddau Reach, other school teams to make the final came from Fenton, Mary Immaculate, Ger Y Llan, Narberth, Stepaside, Sageston, St Oswalds, Hakin, Roch, Glan Cleddau, Orielton and Pembroke Dock

All the teams reached the final after qualifying from their respective cluster festivals.

Cricket Development Officer Matt Freeman said, “Once again the cluster festivals and uptake for primary schools cricket has proved extremely popular.

“The club structure within Pembrokeshire, coupled with the Cricket Wales Community Coach Cricket Programme, enables more opportunities for boys and girls to take part in cricket in a school setting and then progress into the strong club structure across the county.”

All festivals and the Final were sponsored by Valero and Steve Thornton (Public Affairs Manager) attended to the finals day to present the finalists their medals and trophy.
