THE GREATEST free show in Wales this year is all set for lift-off at the weekend in Swansea.
As many as 200,000 people are expected to descend on the city for the two-day spectacular that is the Wales National Airshow 2015.
The Red Arrows, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, an RAF Vulcan, aerobatic teams and the Eurofighter Typhoon are just a small number of the airborne attractions on offer on Saturday and Sunday.
On the ground, Swansea’s promenade plays host to a huge range of military hardware and features which aim to make the fifth Wales National Airshow the best yet.
Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “It’s going to be a weekend to remember and the perfect curtain-raiser to the summer in Swansea.
“It’s an important weekend for tourism and business in the city too because of the sheer number of people who’ll be heading to the City to enjoy the occasion.
“There are no roadworks planned in or around the city this weekend to make sure traffic is kept on the move as much as possible and city centre businesses are open as usual. But we’d advise everyone to make sure they allow plenty of time to get here because the city will be busy.”
Weather-permitting, the Red Arrows (supported by Swansea University) – who have been a permanent feature of the Wales National Airshow since it started in 2007 – will be reaching for the skies at 4.30pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday. The Vulcan, the grand dame of the RAF in the Cold War, opens the flying events from just after noon on the Saturday.
