Scarlets lock Tom Price, who has joined the region ahead of the 2015-16 season from Leicester Tigers, is looking forward to having an opportunity to stake a claim for a starting berth in the famous scarlet jersey.

Price, 22, played most of his rugby with English Championship side Nottingham in the last two years having developed through Leicester Tigers’ academy since joining age 16.

A desire to play consistent rugby and an opportunity to play for the Scarlets saw Price make a move to West Wales earlier this summer. Speaking about his decision to not only move clubs but country, Price said; “I wasn’t playing much rugby at Leicester, I was mainly out on loan at Nottingham. I played a couple of LV= Cup games but wanted to play consistent rugby. Scarlets came with an opportunity and I took it.”

Price has been in residence in Llanelli for the best part of a month and says he’s enjoying the experience but is fully aware of the challenges ahead.

“It’s been good, it’s really nice here. The club has been really good in helping me settle in. I’ve been here about three weeks now, I’ve got to know the boys and a lot of them are good mates already. The staff have been really good too, it’s different to what I’m used to but it’s exciting!”

As a member of the Junior World Championship winning side that beat Wales a few years ago Price has come into contact with a few familiar faces; “I have to keep that quiet around here! It was quite interesting seeing faces I recognised from 20s but it’s gone ok so far!

“I never envisaged playing along the Welsh boys I played against but the opportunity came up and I want to grab it with both hands.

“I obviously want to play as much rugby as I can, I want to make an impact here.

“Competition is going to be tough. With Jake away at the World Cup we’re going to want to get our heads down. I want to keep my head down and put the work in. Right now I want to play as much as I can and play week in week out for the Scarlets. It’s a new challenge and I’m really looking forward it.”
