School pupils have had a successful day’s trading at Ammanford Outdoor Market.

Ysgol y Bedol, Ysgol Betws, Ysgol Gymraeg Teilo Sant and Ysgol Bro Banw battled it out against each other to make the most money on the day and to take the title of Carmarthenshire Young Traders 2015.

The winners of this year’s competition was Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Banw, who took £435.

The team sold craft items that were made out of driftwood. Ysgol Betws made £239.50, Ysgol y Bedol £224.54 and Ysgol Teilo Sant £139.50.

The aim of the competition was for teams of up to 5 pupils from Years 5 and 6 to come up with a business idea, brand it and sell their products on Friday, July 3 from 10am-2pm.

Each of the teams was given £100 donated by Ammanford Town Council and the Ammanford ‘On Track’ Partnership Group.

All the schools kept any money made during the day. County Council executive board member responsible for markets in the county, Cllr David Jenkins, said: “The pupils had a fantastic experience trading in Ammanford Outdoor Market.

“It was obvious that a lot of work had gone in beforehand on deciding what they were going to sell, how they would brand their business and how to price their products to ensure they made the most money.

“It was great to see the town so busy and supporting these young children who could be our future traders.

“I would like to congratulate all the schools who took part and also to the teachers and parents who supported them as well as the competition sponsors.”
