Residents are being urged to have their say on a proposed ‘Digital by Choice Strategy’ developed by Neath Port Talbot Council.

Neath Port Talbot residents will be asked to give their opinion on the contact channels the Council uses to deliver its services.

The strategy proposes to adapt to the growing demand from the public to access services online. The strategy has been developed to increase the amount of online services whilst ensuring traditional channels such as telephone and face-to-face are more efficient and effective.

The Council wants local residents to benefit from having a more convenient and accessible service with an increase in choice. Evidence also shows that online services can play a big role in reducing the costs of delivering services.

If approved, the strategy will continue to build on a number of services that have already been successfully transferred online. These include services such as bulky item collections, pest control appointments and ordering recycling equipment.

The importance of improving digital inclusion within local communities is also recognised in the strategy. The Council aims to implement this by increasing the support available to local residents, promoting public internet access and having a specific digital inclusion strategy.

Councillor Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said, “Being able to access services digitally is now a vital part of day to day living. It is a key priority for the Council to deliver more services online to improve accessibility. We will strive to ensure our services are effective and efficient for local residents.”

“I would encourage anyone who has an interest in these proposals to use this consultation period to have their say”.

The consultation will commence on 17th July and finish on 17th August 2015. To have your say on the strategy, visit www.npt.gov.uk/haveyoursay .
