Two householders from Llanelli have been fined £100 for failing to comply with the council’s recycling scheme.
A resident in Princess Street and another in Swansea Road were issued with fixed penalty notices by environmental enforcement officers.
They had already been provided with a recycling information pack and served a notice under Section 46 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 giving them 21 days to comply with the scheme.
During the month of June a total of 40 Section 46 notices have been issued across Carmarthenshire; of these 35 were issued in Llanelli town, two in Bynea, one in Llwynhendy, one in Ammanford and one in Llanybydder.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “It is important people put the correct bags out on the correct weeks and with the correct items in them.
“If residents are unsure of what to do or they run out of blue bags then please get in touch and our officers will be more than happy to advise them.
“We don’t want to fine people; we want to help as best we can. However, if a resident continually ignores the council’s advice we have no choice but to issue a fine.”
