Investigation by consumer group ”Which?” found that Washing Machine manufacturers may actually be designing their machines in a way that repairs are so costly, they fall on par with the cost of replacement or even outdo the cost of replacing a machine altogether.
According to Which? a range of Washing Machine manufacturers (Bosch, Beko, Indesit, Hotpoint, Indesit, AEG and Zanussi ) now only design machines with sealed drums – meaning repairers cannot access vital parts should they fail, specifically the drum bearings.
One of the top 5 most common problems consumers experience is the worn bearings – and this is common knowledge amongst Insurers, as a high proportion of our claims, almost 60%, are due to this.
Insurers know just how expensive that particular job can be, and therefore can completely concur the findings of this Which? investigation.
Again, Which? research shows that machines made in the 1980’s and 90’s weren’t made with sealed drums and that meant engineers were able to remove and replace parts, such as faulty drum bearings.
Research like this does bring back the thought of ‘they just don’t make them like they used to and it seems to so ring very true in this day and age.
