In July, the focus of international tennis turns to Wimbledon, the most important lawn tennis tournament all year round and held at the All England Club. Although Li Na was absent from the competition, there was still a strong Chinese presence: the Beijing Municipal Tourism Development Commission and the China Open were both present to hold a press conference at the club, and re-issued a statement made after the French Open concerning the “Watch the China Open, tour Beijing” luxury sports tourism package, taking the opportunity to publicise Beijing’s Grand Slam Tournament, all of which was well-received.

This comprehensive package includes three days of guided visits to the city’s most beautiful tourist sites, as well as three days to experience the China Open, featuring the world’s top players. As part of a joint offer by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development and the China Open, it will include several visits to key tourist attractions in the city, such as Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and even the Great Wall of China. At the same time, travellers will also be able to take advantage of 3 days courtside, at the China Open, a WTA premier mandatory event and an ATP 500 event, which is the biggest international competition in Asia.

Primarily intended for sports fans, the package will also appeal to travellers who want to discover the modern and classical aspects of a culturally rich city. After the launch of this sports tourism package, the Beijing Municipal Tourist Development Commission is launching a number of other packages based on tourist’s requirements.

Zheng Jie, former Wimbledon champion and China’s “golden flower”, said in an interview at the event, “Every year playing at the China Open, I always feel like I have come home. I am very excited to be involved with the China Open event at Wimbledon this year, and it is a great honour to be able to promote Beijing to so many tennis fans. I trained in Beijing, and I have lived there for more than ten years, having made it my home. I would like to invite all you tennis lovers and people who love to travel, come to Beijing if you get the chance, watch the China Open, climb the Great Wall and visit the Forbidden City!”

Beijing premier tour package will be available in tourism agencies and online at http://english.visitbeijing.com.cn/
