Celebrations have taken place for over 100 primary school children from across Carmarthenshire.
The Bronze Ambassadors were congratulated for their work in inspiring youngsters to take part in sport leading up to this year’s summer term by the council’s sport and leisure team.
From September 2014 to Easter 2015, over 32,000 youngsters attended local sports clubs.
During the celebrations at Carmarthen Leisure Centre, the new Bronze Ambassadors, from Llanelli, Ammanford and Carmarthen schools, were asked to write pledges for the new term starting in September. Some promised to organise clubs during lunch break and others to inspire the young pupils to love sports.
Bronze ambassadors encourage and inspire other children in their school to take part in sport and physical activity by running break time clubs. They also speak in school assemblies, to school governors and invite local clubs into their school as well as helping promote new and existing sport clubs, updating school sport notice boards and websites.
The council’s area sport and leisure manager, Lee Jones said: “The event enabled us to thank all our Bronze Ambassadors for their hard work throughout the year, and I’ve no doubt that their work played a part in attracting 32,000 youngsters into our clubs. The event also provided the new ambassadors with an opportunity to share ideas and learn more about their roles from the ones who know best and are already doing it – the current ones. Their role in school is really important and helps pupils lead an active and healthy lifestyle.”
