South Wales Police released a statement earlier on today as follows:

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Police Community Support Officer 54301 Stephen Lewis.

Steve was 41 and died in a road traffic collision while on holiday with his family in Devon.

He was stationed at Neath and worked in our community safety department.

Western Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Joe Ruddy, said:

“Steve possessed all the qualities to be a fantastic Police Community Support Officer – hard working, enthusiastic, someone who loved helping people. He was a great ambassador for South Wales Police at the number of community events which he attended with his colleagues in the community safety department.

“He was recently recognised for his outstanding work by the Swansea Neighbourhood Watch Association and just prior to him going on holiday he helped a group of school children during their work experience with South Wales Police to ensure their time with us was fun and rewarding.

“Steve was a hugely respected member of the team and everyone is shocked and saddened to hear of his death in such tragic circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
