Coedcae School in Llanelli has been given top marks in an Estyn inspection.

Standards in the school were judged to be very good, and moving towards excellent, by the team from the Education and Training Inspectorate for Wales.

A total of 15 judgements were made, with 10 being graded as excellent and five good.

They included standards, performance, wellbeing, teaching, learning experiences, partnership working, resource management, leadership, care, support and guidance.

Headteacher Tracy Senchal said: “The set of judgements is thoroughly well-deserved and reflects the hard work of the whole school community over recent years, which has brought great success.

“We are very proud of, and grateful for, the outstanding contributions of staff, pupils, parents, carers and all our other partners to the excellent progress we have made as a school.

“We already knew that we form a caring, strong, thriving and highly successful school community and it is great validation and encouragement to have this recognised by Estyn, the national school inspectorate body.”

The inspection team also commented on the outstanding support for, and understanding of, the work of the school shown by parents and carers.

Ms Senchal added: “It is by building on these strong relationships between home and school that we can continue to improve and to deliver the highest-quality provision and outcomes for the children, our pupils.”

As a result of the inspection visit, the school has been asked to put together some best practice case studies to be shared across Wales.

Carmarthenshire County Council education executive board member Cllr Gareth Jones said: “This is an outstanding inspection report which everyone at the school can be very proud of.

“It is testament to the hard work of the headteacher, staff, governors, parents and pupils themselves.”
