On Monday evening, 27 July, Councillor Gareth Lloyd, Ceredigion Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economic Development and Tourism, will have an opportunity to present Clarach beach with a 2015 Seaside Award. The award is one of the 22 coastal awards won by Ceredigion beaches this year which include Blue Flag, Seaside Awards and Green Coast Awards.
Receiving the Seaside Award will be Tommy Skarrott, owner of the Clarach Bay Holiday Village, who has recently completed repairs the sea defences and access to the beach on his land following the devastation of the 2014 winter storms.Councillor Gareth Lloyd said: “I had the pleasure of being presented with the Ceredigion coastal awards from Keep Wales Tidy earlier this summer and I now have an opportunity to hand over the Seaside Award to Clarach beach and at the same time to recognise an excellent example of the contribution made by the private sector to ensure that our beaches are safe for visitors and locals. Clarach beach along with the rest of the Ceredigion coastline took a severe battering during last year’s storms and Mr Scarrott took it upon himself to deal with the damage knowing how important our beaches are to the tourist industry.”
Following the presentation of the award, there will be a display by the RNLI Lifeguards and Aberystwyth Lifeboat.
The Ceredigion lifeguard service is provided by the RNLI on behalf of Ceredigion County Council.
