S4C brings live coverage of 2015 Meifod National Eisteddfod
Following the unforgettably hot Eisteddfod in 2003, the National Eisteddfod returns this year to Meifod in the former county of Montgomeryshire for the second time.
And S4C will be at the heart of all the action with live coverage from the famous pink pavilion throughout the day, while also following the presenters around the Eisteddfod field – y maes – to see what’s going on.
The all-day live and highlights coverage, produced by BBC Cymru Wales, will be presented by Nia Roberts, Dewi Llwyd, Iwan Griffiths, Heledd Cynwal and Tudur Owen.
The live Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2015 programmes start at 10.00 every morning and continue throughout the day. There will be full commentary for the day’s main ceremonies; so whether it’s the chair, the crown a medal or a prize, S4C will be there to see the winners receive their prizes to the sound of the famous fanfare.
The Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2015 live feed will be available on-line on the BBC’s Cymru Fyw website, bbc.co.uk/cymru fyw and programmes will be available on the S4C website, s4c.cymru.
There will be a nightly highlights programme Mwy o’r Maes and the cameras will also be in the Literature Pavilion with a nightly highlights programme on S4C. Magazine programme Heno will also be on the maes with live broadcasts on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00, and Newyddion 9 will bring the latest news from the Eisteddfod every evening.
Presenter Dewi Llwyd said, “It’s wonderful that the Eisteddfod is coming back to Meifod. I remember the hot weather last time as I tried to chair a debate outside with no shade – an uncomfortable place for any redhead to be! In terms of work, the best thing about presenting from the Eisteddfod is the opportunity one gets to interview genuinely interesting people for an entire week. That really is an honour!”
One of the area’s most famous sons is the naturalist and presenter Iolo Williams, who’s looking forward to welcoming the public back to Montgomeryshire.
“I have very fond memories of the Eisteddfod in 2003, partly because of the amazing weather. Even though Meifod isn’t a Welsh-speaking village, it was wonderful to hear the language being spoken everywhere,” says Iolo who grew up in nearby Llanwddyn.
“It means a great deal to the area that the Eisteddfod is coming here and will give the language a boost locally. There is so much to see and do on the maes and I can’t wait to see the event return to my area.”
S4C’s pavilion will be bustling with events throughout the week. Eisteddfod goers will be able to test their skills in the S4C rugby game and compete for a fantastic smart television to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup on S4C. Cyw and friends will entertain the children with daily shows. The Ysbyty/Hospital gang are sure to create chaos, there will be an Ochr 1 music session with Band Pres Llareggub, a question and answer session with the team behind the film Galesa: Patagonia 2015 and the launch of the Cân i Gymru 2016 (2016 Song for Wales) competition.
