Scarlets conveyor belt continues to produce great talent says Earle

South African lock George Earle believes the Scarlets development pathway is as strong as ever with the region continuously producing the next generation of Scarlets players.

As one of the senior members of the squad Earle believes that the younger players are keeping things fresh this pre-season.

“If you look back to three years ago you wouldn’t recognise many faces here anymore, it shows that young guys are coming through and pushing other guys along which is really good. It’s a big compliment to the academy system and young players from the region coming through.”

With injuries woes limiting his rugby last season Earle is now looking forward to the 2015-16 Guinness PRO12 season having been able to take a full part in this summer’s pre-season training.

“It’s been good, they’re pushing us to our limits. I’ve been injured for a while, it’s good to be back. It’s really important to have a good pre-season behind you.
Last season I found that out the hard way, it’s hard to get back into it if you don’t have a good pre-season.

“Preparing the pre-season has always been one of my strong suits and it’s good to be on my feet and healthy. I’m expecting good things from myself.

A contract extension earlier this year sees Earle preparing for his fourth year at the Scarlets and the South African lock is looking forward to the forthcoming season.

“It’s my fourth season, can you believe it! I’m excited. I’m willing to work hard and I’m looking forward to what the young guys and development players can do.”

Earle believes a strong start in the PRO12 will ensure that the Scarlets reach their target of a top four finish.

“We reached it two years ago, that should always be in our minds. It’s something to aim for; we need a good start, if you’re going to start slow you’re going to struggle. If we can improve our away form and keep the home form going we’ll be in good stead.”
