PLENTY of indoor fun is available for children at Swansea’s leisure centres this summer.

Free swimming, gymnastics, football, netball and tennis are among the activities taking place at Active Swansea leisure centres including Morriston, Penyrheol, Penlan and Bishopston.

Roller discos and dodgeball are among the other activities being made available. Swansea Council’s 5 x 60 officers will also be supervising athletics and basketball sessions as part of multi-sport camps being held in the centres.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “It’s a good thing we’ve got top quality leisure centres in communities across the city because the weather hasn’t been too great since the children broke up from school for their summer break. There are plenty of options available for children of all ages and fitness levels because of the sheer quantity of activities that have been arranged. The added benefit of leisure centre activities also means children are having fun while exercising, socialising and improving their team-working skills at the same time.

“Our leisure centres have been pretty busy over the last week or so, but there are still spaces available for children who want to take part in activities or sessions in coming days and weeks. Adults are continuing to use the leisure centres in their droves as well – either for swimming, team sports or hitting the gym to train for events like the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k.”

About a dozen Morriston Leisure Centre users are being put through their paces by Rhys Page-Walker, the centre’s running club coach, in the build-up to this year’s race on Sunday September 20. Many more members of the other community leisure centres are also using treadmills and cardio-vascular equipment to get themselves in shape for the annual event as they look to conquer their personal bests or raise money for charity.

Some of the other activities being made available for children at Active Swansea leisure centres this summer include trampoline fun, musical theatre workshops, kayaking, teen spin classes, pool inflatables, circus skills fun and badminton.
