The 11th annual Pendine Dash takes place on Sunday August 9th  and it will start at the National Botanic Garden of Wales with the first car flagged off at 10am.

It is organised by Pembrokeshire MG Car Club and attracts cars from all over Britain, mainly MG’s participate but there will be plenty to interest fans of classic cars of other marques, too.

The ‘run’ this year is 85 miles and takes the cars through much magnificent scenery in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, past six castles, Dylan Thomas’ boathouse in Laugharne and the Museum of Speed in Pendine. It finishes at the Picton Centre, Haverforwest where a Welsh tea is served of Bara Brith and Welsh cakes.

Money raised from the entry fee and raffle will be donated this year to the Wales Air Ambulance.

The Pendine Dash is no longer a timed event. It is a navigational rally and, although it doesn’t always end in Pendine, the name has stuck since its early days and it is now a well-known event in the calendars of many UK car clubs. Its origins go back to 1932 when a speed record was broken by an MG in the 750cc class. In 1992, a group of enthusiasts wanted to commemorate this event so they organised a one-off run which they called “The Pendine Dash”.

In 2005, when the current Pembrokeshire MG Car Club was thriving, it was decided to do an event which would attract MGs from all over Britain and it was decided to call it the Pendine Dash. This year, there are nearly 70 cars taking part so everyone has their fingers crossed for good weather.
