Summer is in full bloom across Carmarthenshire – especially so in several council estates where an extra splash of colour has been added with a carpet of wildflowers.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s housing, property services, Street Scene and biodiversity teams have worked together to trial wildflower planting as part of a Carmarthenshire Pollinator project, funded by CWM Environmental.
A beautiful variety of wildflowers, including cornflowers, buttercups, daisies and poppies, are now dancing in the breeze across several locations.
Flowers on housing estates were planted by the council’s grounds maintenance team, and now community engagement officers from housing services are supporting tenants to tend to them as part of its Pride In Your Patch project.
Street Scene have planted wildflowers along a grass verge on the A4138 in Llanelli.
The council’s biodiversity team is also involved, monitoring the pollinating wildlife that the flowers have provided the perfect environment for.
Cllr Hazel Evans, Executive Board Member for Environment, said: “We are very grateful to CWM Environmental for funding the wildflowers which have now come in to bloom across the county. This has been a true partnership project, which has brought a lot of joy to a lot of people.”
Cllr Linda Evans, Executive Board Member for Housing, added: “The wildflowers have brought a fantastic splash of colour to many of our housing estates which have been enjoyed by tenants and passers-by.”
