Schools in Neath Port Talbot are celebrating excellent A level results. Students and teachers at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Sixth Form Centre in Port Talbot, the two schools in Neath Port Talbot offering post-16 education, are being congratulated for their outstanding achievements.

The percentage of Advanced Level examinations or equivalent qualifications passed at grades A*-E is 98%.

81% of these passes, an increase on last year, were at the higher A*-C grades providing students with an extremely sound basis to pursue higher education or other learning opportunities.

A third of our students attained the top A and A* grades.

The increased success of students at the top end of the grading system is particularly pleasing, allowing them to enter university courses with confidence.

These include Jac Donovan, Bethan Ellis, Samuel Harris, Elin Havard, Rhys Jones, Nia Morgan, Tomos Sparnon, Vicky Vale and Delyth Williams from YGG Ystalyfera and Michael Barnes, Rebecca Price, James Tobin, Tyler Zupic, Adam Jardine, Antonio and James Felton from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Sixth Form Centre who all secured outstanding top grade results.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr. Ali Thomas, said, “This is another set of outstanding results for the county borough and I congratulate the pupils, staff and their parents for all their efforts.  We are very proud of them all. I wish the students every success in their future endeavours.”

Congratulating students and school staff, Director of Education, Aled Evans, added, “The sound basis for learning set at Key Stage 4 has enabled more students to continue with their education beyond 16 with purpose and ambition.”

Mr Evans praised those students who had gone from Neath Port Talbot 11-16 comprehensive schools to study at Neath Port Talbot College and he also congratulated the College on their excellent achievements.

Cllr. Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, School Improvement and Lifelong Learning, added, “Again young people from Neath Port Talbot have achieved excellent examination results that will allow them to continue with their learning with confidence.”
